The GirlCode Program

Bridging the Gender Gap in Tech

Recent research suggests that nearly 65 percent of today’s kindergartners will land in jobs that don’t yet exist, likely in the technology, science, and math industries. Yet, as of 2015, only 18 percent of graduates with a computer science degree identified as female. Now more than ever, we need to close the gender gap in tech by creating opportunities for inclusivity.

The Coding Space is committed to being a part of the solution by providing mentorship, opportunities for growth, and equitable access. Our welcoming and inclusive GirlCode program utilizes the same curriculum as our co-ed classes while fostering a safe and supportive female-identifying space for our GirlCoders to develop their computational and critical thinking skills, intellectual confidence, and passion for STEM.

Nevertheless, She Coded

Confidence

Coding is a medium for self-expression, creativity, and fostering intellectual confidence.

Community

Our female-identifying classes provide a great learning environment for GirlCoders to learn to code, create, and problem solve.

Computational Thinking

Through coding we foster a growth mindset, grit, and computational thinking. GirlCoders develop a newfound problem solving stamina they've never seen before.

Why GirlCode?

Only 26% of tech jobs are held by women. Male-dominated coding classes can be an intimidating way to start learning to code. By creating a welcoming and inclusive environment for girls to learn to code, we can help change the gender gap in tech.

Coding Space has a very positive spirit of collaborative learning. My daughter loves the classes and looks forward to them every week. She's learned a great deal about coding but also has developed a real confidence.

Julie, Brooklyn

All my other coding classes are with boys. At GirlCode, the community is way more supportive.
