The Coding Space is excited to kick off our 4th annual Code 4 Change Challenge! The UN Sustainable Development Goals were created by the United Nations in 2015 and are a universal call to action to end poverty, protect the planet and improve the lives and prospects of everyone, everywhere.
There are 17 different goals, but for this project we’re focusing on these 6:
Our passionate kids are busy researching, brainstorming, and planning out their coding projects that bring awareness, ideas, and hope to solving these big issues. Projects are due Friday, May 19th, and we can’t wait to see what they create.
Participating in the challenge and need help getting started or stuck on a particular part of your project? We’ll be hosting several workshops leading up to the deadline:
Tuesday, May 9th, 6-8pm, The Coding Space Upper East Side, 201 E 83rd St
Wednesday, May 10th, Online, 6-8pm
Saturday, May 13th, Pier 57, 25 11th Ave, Seahorse Classroom, 1-3pm
Code 4 Change projects will be visible on our website starting Wednesday, May 24th where everyone will have the chance to vote for Coders’ Choice — the project that coders think deserves to be highlighted for showcasing particularly impressive coding skills, sustainable solutions, and educational value. Our team of Mentors will also be awarding winners in several categories.
Oh, and did we mention there are prizes?
Each category winner will receive a donation of $50 to support an organization that embodies the spirit of Code 4 Change, as well as a certificate of achievement. All projects will be featured on the TCS website, and winning projects will be showcased in a special blog.
We’ll be revealing the winners on Friday, June 2nd at 6:45pm. Tune in on Instagram to watch the livestream or see it in person at our Upper East Side location. Doors open at 6!
